How to Remove Permanent Marker Stains from Carpet and Upholstery in Birmingham AL

To remove Magic Marker from Upholstery, try the following:

1. Mix 1 Tbsp. liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 Tbsp. white vinegar with 2 cups of cool water.

 2. Dip a clean white cloth into the detergent/vinegar solution and sponge the stain.  Leave the solution on the stain for about 30 minutes.  Continue to blot the stain with a clean white cloth and more solution about every 5 minutes

 3. Flush the stain with cool water.

 4. Blot it again with a clean cloth until the liquid is absorbed.

 5. Next, sponge the stain with rubbing alcohol.  Blot again to remove the stain.

 6. Again, sponge with cold water.

 7. Blot with a clean cloth until the liquid is absorbed.

 8. If the stain is still there, mix 1 tsp of liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 Tbsp. of ammonia* with two cups of cool water. Sponge the stain with this solution. Leave it on the stain for at least 30 minutes, blotting every 5 minutes with more solution and a clean white cloth.  9. Sponge with cold water and blot dry.

* Note: Never mix chlorine bleach and ammonia - the resulting fumes are hazardous.

 

To remove Magic Marker from Carpet:

1. Mix 1 Tbsp. liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 Tbsp. white vinegar with 2 cups warm water.

 2. Dip a clean white cloth into the detergent/vinegar solution and sponge the stain, blotting frequently with a dry cloth until the stain disappears.

 3. Flush with clear water.

 4. Blot with a clean cloth until the liquid is absorbed.

 5. If the stain remains, sponge the stain with rubbing alcohol.  Continue blotting to remove the stain.

 6. Flush with alcohol; let it air-dry.

 7. Sponge with cold water.

 8. Blot again until the liquid is absorbed.

 9. Mix 1 tsp liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 Tbsp. ammonia with 2 cups of warm water. Sponge the stain with this solution. Leave it on the stain for at least 30 minutes, blotting every 5 minutes with more solution and a clean white cloth.

 10. Finally, sponge with cold water and blot dry.
