Natural Cleaning Products and Carpet Cleaning Solutions Birmingham AL

Natural Cleaning Products and Carpet Cleaning Solutions found in Birmingham AL homes can save both money and the environment and you probably already have the ingredients in your home.  There are so many cleaning products on the market today that have substances in them that are either toxic or polluting.  These products are meant to make our lives easier, but sometimes the cost is too high, particularly when you think of the health concerns.  In the US today, 1 in 3 people suffer from allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis (US National Center for Health Statistics), so using natural cleaning products in your home may help improve these types of conditions.

Here is a list of common environmentally safe household products that are excellent cleansers and they are non-toxic and safe to use alone or in combinations.

Baking Soda – Baking Soda is an amazing cleanser, deodorizer, water softener, and scouring powder.

Soap – Try using unscented soap in liquid form, flakes, powders or bars is biodegradable and will clean just about anything.  Avoid using soaps which contain petroleum distillates.

Lemon – Keep a couple of fresh lemons in your pantry.  Lemon is one of the strongest food-acids, and is effective against most household bacteria.  It is also a great air freshener and deodorizer.

Borax – (sodium borate) Borax can be used as a cleanser, deodorizer, disinfectant, and water softener.  I works great cleaning wallpaper and painted walls and floors. Borax is considered a safe product even though it is a mild skin irritant similar to baking soda. The MSDS lists borax as a health hazard of 1, similar to salt and baking soda. A health concern with borax is with its potential to disrupt the reproductive system, but this concern is only suspected from ingesting high levels of borax.  Using borax as a home cleanser has not been shown to pose health hazards. Borax is a natural substance which is non-carcinogenic, does not accumulate in the body, or absorb through the skin. It is not harmful to the environment. White Vinegar - cuts grease, removes mildew, odors, some stains and wax build-up.

Washing Soda – Washing Soda is a mineral also called SAL Soda, or sodium carbonate decahydrate. Washing soda cuts grease, removes stains, softens water, cleans wall, tiles, sinks and tubs. Use care, as washing soda can irritate mucous membranes. Do not use on aluminum.

Cornstarch – Cornstarch can be used to clean windows, polish furniture, shampoo carpets and rugs.

These products can be used for in different combinations to make all-purpose cleaners, deodorizers, air fresheners and even carpet cleaning solution.  Here are some simple combinations to clean carpet spots and stains.

Carpet stains: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray directly on stain, let sit for several minutes, and clean with a brush or sponge using warm soapy water.

For fresh grease spots, sprinkle corn starch onto spot and wait 15 - 30 minutes before vacuuming.

For a heavy duty carpet cleaner, mix 1/4 cup each of salt, borax and vinegar. Rub paste into carpet and leave for a few hours. When dry, vacuum.
