A quick sweep or dust mopping in high-traffic areas of your home only takes a few minutes. For less frequently visited areas, every couple of days should do it. And to help minimize the dirt in high traffic area, place doormats at all doors coming into the house. Estimates suggest that doormats prevent 80% of dirt from being tracked through the house.
Vacuum Weekly
Vacuum your carpets at least once a week, and in high-traffic areas more often. This does not have to be difficult. We recommend buying a light-weight but powerful vacuum such as the Oreck Commercial vacuum which is only 10 lbs. With a light-weight vacuum you can quickly and easily vacuum and it doesn’t feel like you are killing yourself. If you have a big clunky vacuum, we suggest buying a newer light-weight one. Clean Spills Immediately
This seems like a no-brainer, but it can be tough to catch all those spills when they happen. So, if you see a spill, wipe it up immediately. The easiest way to do this is to keep a supply of paper towels on hand, or have plenty of kitchen or hand towels available. Even if you don’t have time to really clean a spill or stain, if you wipe the majority up when it happens, it will be much easier to clean later.
For Ceramic Tile and Vinyl….
Ceramic Tile or Vinyl floors clean fairly easily with warm water and a little cleaner. Now-a-days there are all types of great mops to make this easier. Swiffer even has mops which spray the cleaner from the head of the mop and allow you to quickly clean a floor without even getting a bucket.
Hard Wood Laminate…
Many vacuums are now made to be used on carpet and hardwoods. As long as you can turn off the beater bar on your vacuum, you should be able to use it on hardwoods. Or you can use a dry micro-fiber mop (or a Swiffer with replaceable dust pads) to dust your hard woods and pick up any lint and dust bunnies. If your floor requires deeper cleaning, damp-mop the floor with a hard wood or laminate cleaner designed for that purpose. Or, you can use a spray bottle with a half water and half vinegar mixture. Lightly spray the floor and mop. Make sure you don’t over wet as standing water on these types of floors can be damaging.
